Extra Credit

You Decide activity:
I would have to agree that having standards are, in fact, essential for teaching.  As much as they may inconvenience teachers with all the paperwork and time commitment they include, they are the building blocks of teaching.  Without these standards it would be like teaching aimlessly and without any real sense of direction.  It would especially make it difficult if a student would, for some reason, have to relocate and change schools because this student may be either far behind or ahead of the rest of the students.  Having standards prepares students for college and allows every student in every grade level across the state be on the same page.  Teachers jobs are to take the time to create, revise and look over standards so it should not be too much of an inconvenience to them.

Blog #2

Three things that I have liked about the given presentations are the creative activity's, the information that i would not have ordinarily gained, and the different styles of power points that have been used. I liked the creative activity's because it shows me how one day we will all have our own classrooms and need to come up with different ways to involve our students. I like learning new information that i might not ordinarily learn because i can store it and one day use those facts in my own classroom. I like the different styles of power points since it is not the same thing for every presentation and shows how technology can be used in a variety of ways. I would hope that future presenters would not read off of notecards, use examples straight out of a source, and not interacting with the class. I feel it would be better not to read off notecards because i feel as if there is no direct eye contact or interaction between me, a member of the audience, and the presenter(s). I think it would be best if future presenters use real life examples instead of examples from a source so i could relate to them more. Last but not least i think that presenters should try to not just read and lecture the class but interact and ask questions instead since lectures can become boring.
